Îles de Lérins
A

trip to the islands off Cannes (Lerins islands) by ferry boat takes you away from the maddening crowd to the quiet and beautiful islands of St Honorat or St Marguerite.
St Honorat is rich in history, and has been owned for 16 centuries by the monks of the brotherhood of Saint Benedict. Discover the medieval monastery, incredibly old stone chapels, the many cannonball ovens, the vineyards, olive groves, and the beauty of the views to Cannes.
There is a restaurant, La Tonnelle, right on the waterfront which makes for a great lunch setting.
St Marguerite, the larger of the two islands, is famous for it’s fort, now the Museum de la Mer where the “man in the iron mask” was imprisoned. The island is a protected natural reserve.
There are a couple of restaurants and picnic spots overlooking the turquoise waters between the two islands.
