Nice
N

ice is a twenty minute drive to the beginning of the Promenade des Anglais from the Villa Port d’Attache.
It is a bustling city, capital of the Alpes-Maritimes.
It’s very busy and so parking in underground parking is often necessary.
The Promenade des Anglais is a long boulevard along the beachfront and lined with smart hotels, casinos and beaches. The Negresco Hotel is the most emblematic hotel of the Promenade. A lunch or tea on it’s terrace is worth the stop.
Of interest is the Place Massena, the old town of Nice, with it’s marketplace and the port.
The marketplace, or Cours Saleya, is a colourful stop, in particular the flower market and every Monday is the “marché des brocantes”.
Not far from the marketplace, a lift can be taken to the top of the promontory known as the “Chateau”, in reference to the Chateau that was destroyed in 1706 and offering great views of the bay of Nice.
The Chagall and the Matisse museums are worth a visit.
From the port of Nice you have the choice of either the Grande Corniche, the Moyenne Corniche or the Corniche Inférieure, three wonderful roads leading to Monaco. We have all seen the glamorous Grace Kelly, notably in the movie “To catch a thief” driving a cabriolet along the Corniche to Monaco.
