Mougins

Visit Mougins: village, art and good ideas

M

ougins, around fifteen minutes inland, is a hilltop village known for art, restaurants and a relaxed Riviera lifestyle. The historic centre is pedestrian and easy to explore from the car parks around the village. Mougins’ culinary reputation is linked to Roger Vergé and the Moulin de Mougins, while Picasso spent the final years of his life here. The former Museum of Classical Art has closed and been replaced by FAMM – Female Artists of the Mougins Museum. The Photography Centre and village galleries complete the cultural offer.

What should you do in Mougins Old Village?

Walk without a strict itinerary. The lanes spiral around the hilltop past stone houses, workshops, galleries, restaurants and viewpoints. One or two hours of wandering already gives a strong sense of the village.

What should art lovers visit?

FAMM focuses on women artists and replaces the former classical-art museum. The Photography Centre extends the connection between Mougins, Picasso and photographers who documented his life, while galleries provide many smaller stops.

Is Mougins still a gastronomic destination?

Yes, although it makes more sense to choose from current restaurants than to follow an old list of Michelin-starred names. Mougins is particularly good for a long lunch or dinner after a day on the coast.

How long should you spend in Mougins?

Half a day is ideal for the village, a museum or exhibition and a meal. Combine it with Grasse or return towards Cannes later in the day.

What can you visit around Mougins?

Cannes and Vallauris are close. Biot continues the arts-and-crafts theme, while Grasse takes you farther into the hinterland.

Where to stay when visiting Mougins?

Port d’Attache is close enough to Mougins for a few-hour visit or an evening out. Stay in Vallauris, spend the day in Cannes or Antibes, then head to Mougins for the village and dinner.
