Visit Cannes: what to see and do?

C

annes is close to Port d’Attache and world-famous for the Cannes Film Festival each May. Beyond the festival, the city remains active throughout the year with congresses, cultural events, beaches and shopping. The Croisette follows the seafront past palaces and beaches, while Forville Market and the historic Le Suquet district reveal a more Provençal side of Cannes. The former Musée de la Castre is now called the Musée des Explorations du Monde.

What can you see in Cannes in one day?

Start at Forville Market, then climb through Le Suquet for views over the Old Port, bay and Lérins Islands. Walk back down to the Palais des Festivals and continue along the Croisette. This route shows the contrast between old Cannes, the harbour, beaches and glamorous seafront.

Is Cannes worth visiting outside the Film Festival?

Yes. The festival lasts only a short time, while Cannes remains a year-round destination for walking, restaurants, shopping, beaches and exhibitions. Major congresses can affect traffic and prices, so checking the events calendar before your stay is useful.

Do you need a car to visit Cannes?

Not once you reach the centre. Forville, Le Suquet, the Old Port, Palais des Festivals and Croisette are all within a walkable area. Park once or arrive by train and explore on foot.

Can you visit the Lérins Islands from Cannes?

Yes. Boats leave Cannes for the Lérins Islands. Sainte-Marguerite combines forest, coves and Fort Royal, while Saint-Honorat is known for its monastery, vineyards and quieter atmosphere.

What can you visit around Cannes?

Nearby Vallauris and Golfe-Juan combine ceramics with the coast. Mougins offers a hilltop village and galleries, while Antibes combines Old Town, market, harbour and Cap d’Antibes.

Where to stay when visiting Cannes?

Port d’Attache is in Vallauris between Cannes and Antibes. You can enjoy Cannes during the day or evening and return to a quieter villa with a swimming pool and breakfast. The same base works well for Antibes, Golfe-Juan and the Lérins Islands.
